HP Envy Photo 6230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everybody!

I just got my brandnew HP Envy Photo 6230 installed with the absolut latest Version of the "Print and Scan Driver and Accessories" (44.4.2678 dating from 20th June 2019).

Everything seems to work fine but "HP Print & Scan" does not offer me to scan to editable text. I can only choose between "Document" and "Image". When I scan using the optin "Document" it creates a PDF-file but without any OCR.

Previously I had a DeskJet F2480 and to have OCR-Integration I only installed the free HP OCR Agent from

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/ocragent/hpcom_OCR_140_003.exe

and this directly integrated into "HP Print & Scan" offering the option to scan as "PDF (Editable Text)". I also checked if I can use ReadIRIS that I found on ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/readiris but this tells me, that I would not have a compatible model to use it.

I can't believe that such a great device comes without any OCR-Software included. I'm sure you guys can give me a hint how to get this work without buying/using 3rd-Party-Software.

Thanks in advance!

Jonny

Hello,

Try the following solution:

  1. Download and run this driver.
  2. Click on Continue, and then Cancel.
  3. On the keyboard, press the Windows logo and R keys simultaneously. The Run window opens.
  4. Type %temp%, then press Enter. The temp folder opens.
  5. Locate then double click on the 7zS... folder (if there are several, choose the most recent one).
  6. Double click on the Optional folder, then iDRS.msi or iDRS.
  7. Launch the HP Scan application, and then select Save as editable text (OCR).
  8. Click on Scan.

Do not hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Hi Mans!

Thank you so much! It works like a charm. Opening the Driver package from the ENVY Photo 7800 with WinRAR, I found all the necessary files in a Folder named "optional" and could easyly extract and install it . I'm just wondering why they don't include this functionality in the original Driver for the ENVY Photo 6230?!?

Now I've got exactly the same issue with the HP DeskJet 2540. A quick check of its' Driver package reveals that the OCR-Feature seems not to be included as well. Is there a chance to also get it working in a similar way with this Printer model?

Thanks again - and also in advance - for you help!

Regards,

Jonny
