Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Until yesterday, I had a working 3830.  For no reason it will not print now.  I have scoured the Community and have tried everything that has been listed (that I could find).  I removed the printer and as far as I know, all device drivers installed.  I can install it (to an extent) on this machine: Dell Latitude 5480.  I have tried every version of wireless install I know how (WPS, IP add, even did static IP add) and have also tried USB cable install.  Printer installs but as soon as I go to print a test page out of the Que, it fails and gives no error code.  I finally found an error code of 0x8007007e (found a case about printspooler.dll and followed those instructions, no dice).

Another case had me go to local drive \windows\system32\spool\drivers\ and change a couple of folders (x64 and another) to .old, then go find in \WinSxS a printconfig.dll file (which there are a total of 11 spread across multiple directories), move it into the x64 folder noted above, then reboot and start over.  Nope.

At my wits end.  Here's the funny thing... I just walked over to an older Asus laptop I have, did a start-settings-devices Add Printer...  found it, installed and it printed just fine.  The TWAIN driver is broken now on that machine so another issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I made a little doc with some screen shots of the cases I used if it would help.

It would be nice to be able to go grab the driver that I am looking for without having to get everything else (even just the driver is already packed with other stuff for "IT Professionals"...

Hi @Rylanet,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to print from computer.

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
    • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
    • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
    • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
    • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
    • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
    • Now restart your computer again.
    • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
    • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
    • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
    • Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service

Install all the available Windows updates

If it is been a while since you updated your Windows, that is the main reason why Windows says your HP printer driver is unavailable. Here are the steps how to do a Windows Update to install all accessible operating system update.

If you are accessing Windows 10, then these steps are for you.

  1. Hit the Start menu and write an update. After that, click on the “Check for updates” option.
  2. Tap on the “Check for updates” option.
  3. After clicking on that option, Windows will install the updates automatically.
  4. When Windows completes all its updates, start your computer again and attempt to print a file to check if your printer works.

Reinstall the drivers from the Software and drivers page

If the error persists, Try installing the printer with windows built-in driver

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Ok,

So I followed all of the steps (one by one) from the first section of your email, from "Control Panel" step to the "Windows Image Acquisition service".  I then did the Windows update and found a small, recent, cumulative update so I installed it.  So, everything should be gone.

I did the following:

  • From Windows - Services - Add a printer
  • found the 3830 and installed it
  • Went to ready.  I went to Manage - Print test page.... Got error.  Stuck in Queue.  Properties from the were normal (I have them if you want them)
  • Ran Troubleshooter
  • Only error it could find was that it was not "Set as default".  So I set it, hit apply, then hit Print test page
  • Failed. Same thing.
  • I went to Device Manager_Printers_HP 3830_Driver Update.  It said most recent.
  • I did a reboot
  • Next, I went to support.hp.com and the 3830 page.  I grabbed the Basic Drivers pack (ver 40.15.1230  11/22/21)
  • Ran that install. Said No Thanks to the options (Connected Printing, Printer Analytics, App Analytics)
  • DId Automatic Setup, Found the 3830 just fine.
  • Skipped the Fax install.
  • It then said I needed to install HP Easy Start, so I said ok.  It then said it was only for Android or iOS.  So nothing to install.
  • Reboot
  • Print test page
  • Failed

So, after all that.  same place.  So I did this...

  • Add a printer
  • TCP/IP port
  • used the current IP Add as the host, and got port 9100, RAW.

Freakin works!!!  No idea why.  So after almost 4 hours of going through the steps you lined out (which by the way I had already done in various other orders), got nothing.  Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the very specific steps that you laid out and wish that would have been the answer and hope that it is a solution for others.  But I have to say the 30 seconds it took to try adding a new printer with TCP/IP seems like it should be a first step in the future.

If you need any other information from this machine, please let me know and I will share anything I can to help others,.

Thank you, Ryan.
