Please help! I took apart the printer to get a paper that was jammed inside. Apparently, I was overly zealous in my pursuit of said paper, because the output tray snapped off. For the love of Pete, I can't get that thing back on. I have forced and jiggled that little bugger, but can't manage to get it on. If you have any suggestions, let me know. If this were not my work printer, I would have thrown it in the trash already. 🙂  Super frustrating.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

note:HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Try to print. If the error persists, continue to the next step.

  1. Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord and any other cables.

warning: You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer to avoid risk of injuries or electric shock.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.

  3. Pull out the paper path cover.

  4. Locate any jammed paper inside the printer. Grasp any jammed paper with both hands, and then pull the paper slowly but firmly toward you to remove it.

  5. Use your fingers to lift the flip gate on the duplex rollers.

    Example of the flip gate

  6. Check for jammed paper underneath the flip gate.

  7. Press the flip gate down until it snaps into place, and then reinsert the paper path cover.

  8. If the carriage is not obstructed, move the carriage to the right or left of the printer, and then remove any jammed paper. To avoid tearing the paper, use both hands to pull out the paper.

  9. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  10. Reconnect the power cord and any other cables to the rear of the printer, and then turn on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
