My printer used to print in color fine a few weeks ago. Then it stopped. I checked the printer settings when I went to print a color document and I cant even find where I have a grayscale vs color option. I believe I insalled the drivers correctly. I also can't print from my phone anymore and I used to be able to do that too. Now when I try to print from my phone a message on my phone pops up and says "contacting printer" and then never prints, even the printer is on.

HI @momofJSJ,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues printing in color on your HP officeJet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
How is the printer connected?USB/Wireless
Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts?
Are you able to make a copy from the printer?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the copy comes out fine, I would suggest here is to Uninstall and reinstall the printer software:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL42011/mp-108821-4/OJ4620_1315-1.exe and install the updated printer software
15.) Connect the USB cable only when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Hi @momofJSJ,
Thank you for replying,
I'm glad to hear that you are able to print from the laptop however having issues printing from iPad. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue. .
I would suggest you try these steps here:
Hard reset on the printer, router, computer and other devices on the same network.
The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.
1. Press the Power button on the printer to turn it off.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
4. Turn off the computer.
5. Wait for 30 seconds.
6. Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
7. Wait for 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready
8. Turn the computer back on.
9. Wait for the computer to reload
10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
11. Turn the printer back on.
You can try updating the printer firmware. Go to https://support.hp.com/drivers please enter the product and then select Software and drivers and then choose the Operating system and version to download and update the firmware. You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware.
Let's try installing the HP Smart app (Previously HP AiO Remote app) to print from your iOS device. Go to Apple Store and install the HP Smart app on your iOS device.
I found a wonderful document which will give you instructions on how to use this app. Please go through the steps here: http://hp.care/2sl1E5V
If the app is already installed, uninstall and reinstall the app and check.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
