My Office Jet 5200 series stopped working w the latest update of Win 11 & HP Smart.

HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer

Product
Z4B12A
I can setup in Windows and print w Word but HP Smart cannot print PDFs like it used to. It wants to send a file to the printer for optimization, and then it fails. The scan feature in HP Smart cannot find the printer on my home WiFi. The printer is connected w an active IP address. Is there a missing update to the printer that needs to match the latest Win 11 and HP Smart?

Hi @EdK-5200,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issues you're facing with printing PDFs using HP Smart and scanning problems on the HP OfficeJet 5258 printer, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the Printer Firmware is Up to Date:
  2. HP Smart App Update:
    • Make sure that the HP Smart app on your device is the latest version. Updated software tends to offer better compatibility with new operating system versions.

  3. Reinstall HP Smart:
  4. Verify Wi-Fi Connection Settings:
    • Network Settings: Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. Check and verify the connectivity by accessing the printer’s IP address in a web browser. Enter the IP address in the browser's address line and manage settings through the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

  5. Scan Features on HP Smart:
    • If the scanning feature is not detecting the printer, ensure network discovery is enabled on your Windows device.
    • You can also try to scan through other Windows applications, such as Windows Scan, Paint, or Windows Fax and Scan, as alternatives using the built-in Windows drivers.

  6. Troubleshoot PDF Printing:
    • Send File Optimization: If PDF printing fails with HP Smart's file optimization, try printing the PDF directly from Adobe Reader or another PDF application to bypass HP Smart, or turn off the optimization feature if it allows.

  7. Driver Conflicts:
    • If possible, check Device Manager in Windows for any driver conflicts or errors with the printer. Reinstalling the specific drivers recommended for Windows 11 might resolve these conflicts.

These steps should help you troubleshoot and get your HP OfficeJet 5258 printer to function correctly with the HP Smart app under Windows 11.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
