Solved!

Office Jet 7740 will not print from one device

HP Recommended
HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I was printing about 2 weeks ago when all of a sudden printing stopped and something happened and I fouind that I couild no longer print from one of my Dell Inspiron laptops.  Printing is fine from the other one (which is Win 11/64-bit), but on this one, I have downloaded the driver roughly 8x, gone through the whole process, and find that in my settings that it says "driver is not available".  The printer is detected (and I can scan  to it from this computer using HP Smart).  HP Smart shows ink levels consistently with the other Dell.

Any thoughts on (a) why it suddenly stopped, and (b) why the driver is unavailable despite multiple attempts to download?

@billcoop4, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print from one of the computers. This seems to be a software issue.

  • Do you get any errors while trying to print?
  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

Check for any pending Windows updates first.

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Remove the existing printer entry > click on Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing. Open File > Print

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
