HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

Can you help:

I have used 3rd party ink for this printer for years. A few years back when HP installed ink protection in its printers, HP pushed this firmware update to my printer. Following the Class action suit, I installed HP firmware updates and the printer worked like a charm for years afterwards - until now.

Suddenly today, I got an error message on the printer, stating that one or more ink cartridges were incompatible and or damaged, with an additional message that HP would not guarantee, non-genuine cartridges installed in the printer.  The message was specific in that the magenta color was corrupted. I went to the HP smart app, and verified that HP error notifications are disabled and that third-party cartridges would not be flagged. HP calls this "dynamic security", and it was in fact disabled in the printer properties, yet the 8610 was still showing these error messages. I changed out the cartridges, and when the printer came back on, it showed the magenta color working well but an error message on the blue color (but this same blue cartridge was previously working fine 2 minutes earlier). Hence, I am fairly convinced that a new HP push update has bricked the printer to disallow third-party in cartridges.

I have updated the printer with the latest HP firmware and manually hard reset the printer. Add this point, when I open the door, the printhead will not even move to the left to be reset. It is stuck in the far right postion where I cannot reach it.

FYI: HP was sued again on Jan 5 2024 for bricking its printers, hence it looks all but certain that my 8610  printer has suffered the same fate that it did when HP was previously sued.

If my hunch for all of the above is correct, and until the new class action suit brings about another firmware update by HP, do you know of any solution to get this 8610 printer back?

Same happened to me. If I replace the magenta with another, it does not reset the print head to try and accept the other cartridge. I believe my printer is bricked because the "Cartridge Problem" wont change even if I pull out the printhead or remove a different cartridge. As soon as I shut the door it immediately returns to "Cartridge Problem". I want in on the lawsuit.
