Dell XPS13
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After a lot of pain, finally got my daughters Dell XPS13 to connect to her OfficeJet Pro 8030 via USB but now WiFi Dirrect won't work.  Unfortunately this printer is setup to do everything on a WiFi network but its going to be used in a college dorm so we really need it to connect via USB and WiFi Direct not WiFi network.  Any ideas?

Note: WiFi network works fine. Printer shows up twice in Windows: once as USB and once as WiFi network and this was the only way to get USB to function. Not ideal but seems to be the way HP set this up. Ever since this dual appearance happened the WiFi Direct option no longer shows up when you try to add a printer, which is how HP wants you to attach to the printer for WiFi Direct.

@OttoW, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

You may connect the printer to the computer via wifi-direct. However, there will be no internet access on the computer while using wifi-direct.

Kindly refer to this document to know how to connect the printer via wifi-direct - Printing with Wi-Fi Direct. the default password is 12345678.

If the issue persists, try disconnecting the USB cable and connect the printer to the computer via wifi-direct and check if that helps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
