The printer is suddenly printing line by line instead of an entire page at a time. I have no idea why it started doing this. I cleaned the printheads and realigned the heads but no change.  There's plenty of ink in the cartridges.

Hi @JGVT190

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. I’m truly sorry you’re dealing with this—especially when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 was printing smoothly and now suddenly outputs line by line instead of full pages. That shift can feel disruptive, and I want to help you restore proper performance.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to address what’s likely a spooling conflict, driver miscommunication, or firmware logic fault affecting page rendering.

Step-by-Step Fix for Line-by-Line Printing on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710

1. Reset the Printer Hardware

This clears temporary logic faults that can affect print flow.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in directly to a wall outlet.
  • Power on and retry printing.

2. Clear the Print Spooler on Windows

Corrupted spooler files can fragment print jobs.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler → Right-click → Stop.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS → Delete all files inside.
  • Go back to services.msc → Right-click Print SpoolerStart.

3. Reinstall the Full Driver Package

Driver miscommunication can cause fragmented output.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Firmware updates can resolve rendering and page feed logic.

  • On the same driver page, download the latest firmware update.
  • Run the installer with the printer connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Restart the printer after update.

5. Test from a Different App

  • Open a test document in WordPad or Notepad.
  • Print a full page and observe whether the issue persists.
  • If it prints correctly, the issue may be isolated to a specific app or file format.

Once these steps are complete, your printer should resume full-page printing. If the issue continues, let me know whether the output pauses between lines or scrolls continuously—I’ll guide you further based on that.

You're close to restoring smooth, uninterrupted output.
