HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer

On my HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer, why is the serial number in the Printer Information display different from the serial number on the label on the back of the printer, under the battery?

The serial number on the label is 10 characters long.

The serial number in Printer Information has the same 10 characters, but has an additional 4 characters appended to the end.

Those last 4 characters don't seem to match any other property of the printer - firmware version, MAC address, service ID, product, etc.

That is normal. The first 10 digits are the serial number, and the first 2 letters represent the country of manufacture, e.g. CN China, TH Thailand, MY Malaysia.

If you use a barcode scanner and scan the serial number barcode label from the printer or the box, the barcode scanner will read 14 digits. During the packaging process, the serial number barcode is scanned, and the data ( 14 digits) is written in the device as a serial number. The last 4 digits don't mean anything to the user.

The explanations of the first 2 letters and barcode scanners are irrelevant to the question.

I have remote users, and none of them will have barcode scanners.

The last 4 digits do mean something to both the user and to me as the asset manager.

Having a discrepancy like this unnecessarily complicates asset inventory.

I'm looking for any actual documentation that explains what the last 4 characters are so we can update our internal knowledge articles and streamline support for our customers.
