Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have used this printer for some time without problems. Some days ago the printer stopped printing.

I was using a connection via wifi, thru my home router. Now I even tried to reinstall the driver, I tried to connect to the printer using an USB A-B cable: no way The PC does not see the printer.

The printer correctly connects to the router, the connection is ok, I can see from the panel the IP address 192.168.2.105. The printer even prints a document sent to it by mail! But there is no way to see the printer from the internal subnet. Suspecting a firewall problem I also tried with another computer, with windows 10 64bit, but the behavior is the same: the driver does not find anything on the printer's IP, nor is able to recognize the printer when connected directly with the USB cable.

I tried the "reset" in the printer menu, but for what I can see it is not a hard reset, I only had to reinsert the wifi ssid and pw. I am sure there is a way to perform a hard reset, to restore factory defaults. I believe that after a reste I can reconfigure this printer and perhaps fix this strange behavior.

How can I perform a factory reset?

Thanks

@ptoniolo,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding assistance with performing a reset on the printer to factory defaults. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 I will be glad to assist you here.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this occur after a power outage or surge?
  • Are you able to access the EWS Page of the printer?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform a hard reset on the printer again, to begin with by following steps from this link: https://hp.care/2HiK9XF follow instructions under the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
  • Please check this user guide link: https://hp.care/2xuNfCY and visit page 4 for the control panel options and buttons. That is important to perform the semi-full reset on the printer.

I will now send you a private message to perform a semi-full reset on the printer with clear instructions. Please check your forum private message box for a message from me with these instructions.

This should fix the issue regarding resetting the printer to factory settings. If there are no hardware issues with the printer, then the printer should get connected and function correctly.

If the issue continues after this, then contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced as it might be faulty.

I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: https://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
