HP OfficeJet 5252 All-in-One Printer

After the Sequoia upgrade for macOS, a window opened up and read as follows: “ Legacy System Extension.  Existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by “HP inc.” which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS.  Contact the developer for support.”  I am using an HP printer:  OfficeJet 5200 All-in-One Printer series.  What do I need to do so that this printer will work when the new macOS comes around?  Many thanks!!

I am running macOS Sequoia 15.3.2

Hi @tammymasoud

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The message you're seeing about the “Legacy System Extension” indicates that the current HP printer driver or system software might not be fully compatible with future macOS updates. To ensure your HP OfficeJet 5200 will work with upcoming macOS versions, you should take the following steps:

Update Printer Drivers:

Visit the HP Support website Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support and search for the latest drivers and software for your OfficeJet 5200 series that are compatible with macOS.

Download and install the newest drivers or printer utility software.

Check for Firmware Updates:

Some printers require a firmware update to maintain compatibility with newer operating systems. You can find firmware updates on HP's support page for your printer model.

Switch to AirPrint (if Available):

Most modern HP printers, including the OfficeJet series, support AirPrint, which eliminates the need for additional drivers.

Check your printer manual or specifications to ensure AirPrint compatibility. If supported, you can use your printer seamlessly without installing HP-specific drivers.

Uninstall Legacy Software:

If you're currently using older software or drivers, uninstall them via HP’s uninstaller or the macOS system preferences to avoid conflicts.

Monitor HP and macOS Announcements:

Keep an eye on announcements from HP and Apple regarding future macOS updates. HP might release new drivers or software designed for the updated system.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
