Changed printer cartridge C and M.  Display stated problem with ink system.  turn off, if problem continues contact support.  I put the S/N in HP web site does not recognize, CN34NB2GFB.

Also, HP will not cut down.  I can not update and it is preventing my from shutting down my computer.

Hi @DaveW2025

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must be to see the “problem with ink system” message right after replacing cartridges, and then to have the printer interfere with shutting down your computer.

You’ve already taken the right step by checking the serial number and trying updates, so let’s focus on practical actions that can help stabilize the printer.

Steps to address the ink system error

1. Reseat cartridges carefully

  • Power on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  • Check for protective tape on the new cartridges and ensure none remains.
  • Reinsert each cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

2. Clean electrical contacts

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridges and gently wipe the copper contacts on both the cartridges and inside the carriage with a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling.

3. Reset the printer

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back in and power on.
  • This forces the printer to reinitialize its ink system.

4. Update firmware

5. Run printer diagnostics

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Printer Status Report.
  • If the report prints successfully, the ink system is functioning.
  • If the error persists, the printhead may need servicing or replacement.

Steps to address computer shutdown issue

1. End HP processes before shutdown

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Look for HP printer software processes (such as HP Update or HP App).
  • Right‑click and select End Task before shutting down.

2. Reinstall printer software

  • Uninstall the current HP printer software from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Download the latest full software package from the HP support page above.
  • Reinstall and restart the computer.
  • This ensures the printer software does not block shutdown.

The ink system error is most often resolved by reseating cartridges, cleaning contacts, and updating firmware. The shutdown issue can be cleared by reinstalling the printer software or ending HP processes before powering down.
