OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been trying unsuccessfully to install this printer on my PC (Windows Pro 21H2). I am using the newest driver file (Full_Webpack-1312-OJ8600_Full_Webpack.exe). This printer was installed previously with an older driver. I first removed the old printer, uninstalled the 8600 application, and ran printui.exe to delete the old driver. This is what I see when Full_Webpack-1312-OJ8600_Full_Webpack.exe hangs:

Of course, I have no CD, nor have I been able to find OJ860x64.msi. (I doubt locating OJ860x64.msi would help.) The old driver (OJ8600_Basicx64_1316.exe) also fails (after correctly locating the printer at 192.168.1.240), showing :

I have been able to successfully use Full_Webpack-1312-OJ8600_Full_Webpack.exe to install this printer on two other PCs on my LAN. The printer is connected via an Ethernet cable at 192.168.1.240. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was able to resolve this myself. To my surprise, providing the install routine in Full_Webpack-1312-OJ8600_Full_Webpack.exe with access to the OJ860x64.msi file used during the previous installation was the answer. I found that file in the previous installation file, OJ8600_1316.exe. By unzipping the contents of OJ8600_1316.exe to a folder, I found OJ860x64.msi and pointed the installer to that folder. That let the installation of the printer with new drivers complete successfully.

I am providing this after-action report in the hope it may help others who might encounter this problem.

I also have OfficeJet 8600 Pro, and I absolutely love it. It has served me wonderfully for quite a while. So I was dismayed when it stopped working yesterday. The 'Network' connection failed somehow. I unplugged and reset it, no joy. They I uninstalled the drivers and downloaded new drivers from HP site. Installed those, still no joy. Then I figured I would try basic USB cable connection using the new drivers, STILL NO JOY. I was ready to toss my beloved 8600 into the trash bin and start looking at new printers.

But I then found the ORIGINAL installation CD (I was amazed I found it). So I uninstalled all the 'new' drivers and then loaded up the old software from the original installation CD. And VOILA, she is working perfectly again, albeit on the USB cable connection. I have not yet tried the Network connection, but I can live with the USB connection, that will work for me.

Just thought I'd add this to the discussion before someone tosses their 8600. Try the original installation CD if all else fails!
