Printer was working fine until last week. Now I can either print but not scan, or scan but not print. In hindsight, I believe a Windows update messed things up, but before I determined that, I uninstalled the printer and have had trouble ever since.

I contacted HP support. He was able to get the printer re-installed by using "Add a Printer" in Devices and Printers. Printing was fine, but I discovered today that I could not scan to the computer.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled all software and the printer many times. I did a factory reset. I followed the instructions here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Driver-is-not-available/m-p/6342433#M1204....

When I download and install the product installation software, everything installs, but I cannot print. I ran HP Print & Scan Doctor. It can print an internal test page, but not a test page sent from the computer. Windows shows the printer as installed, but says the driver is unavailable. All of this after multiple attempts to uninstall and reinstall.

This is on my home wireless network. Others on this network are not having this problem--only my computer.

Any further advice?

Hi there,

It sounds like you know what you're doing and have taken the right steps.  One question (as this has tripped me up in the past) - are you sure your printer and PC are connected to the same network?  A lot of newer routers have 2 bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz).  If your PC is connected to the 5GHz band and your printer is connected to the 2.4GHz band, they won't connect.  Some of the older printers only work on the 2.4GHz band, so they would both need to be connected to that (if applicable).

No, they're definitely on the same network. Here's the latest...it seems to be working (scanning and printing), but I don't think it's working in quite the right way.

In device manager, the printer does not show up under Printers. But it does show up under WSD Print Provider. See:

Capture2.PNG

This prompted me to visit the print queue. I clicked on Printer, then Properties, and then selected the Ports tab. I noticed that the WSD port was checked and the TCP/IP port was unchecked. I reversed this. Once I did so, the printer started printing immediately. See:

Capture.PNG

I have no idea why this works or why the printer shows up under WSD Print Provider instead of Printers.

It appears that my computer now sees the scanner as one device and the printer as a totally separate device. But for now this seems to be working--I can print and scan.
