HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Had this printer for two years and until recently, was very reliable. I initially ran HP Print and Scan Doctor to resolve a scanning issue, where the scanned image ends up with a vertical line on the left side. The software reported that it had found and fixed some problems. However, after running the tool, my printer now only prints gibberish at the top of multiple pages and never prints the intended document. It successfully prints the print head alignment and cleaning pages, but nothing else. To troubleshoot, I reset the printer, replaced the print head [$100] and installed new cartridges [$140], but the issue persists. I need assistance resolving this problem.

Hi @RonVazquez,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're still experiencing gibberish prints on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 after trying the initial steps, it likely indicates a deeper issue with driver corruption or hardware communication. Let’s attempt some advanced solutions:

1. Completely Remove and Reinstall Printer Drivers.
. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2. Look for HP Printer software.
3. Right-click to uninstall.
4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.
5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9. Look for an HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10. Select Ok.
11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13. Restart the computer.

Then download HP Easy Start from the below link: Click Here and run HP Easy Start and have to select Full Software and install the printer

2. Sometimes gibberish printing is caused by corrupted fonts or software issues.

A. Print from Notepad:

Type basic text, and print it.

If it works fine, your issue may be with a specific application.

B. Print a PDF as an Image:

In the Print dialog, click Advanced, check Print as Image, and print.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
