I used Windows 10 and the Officejet 4650 for many years without issues.

Now I cold installed Windows 11 and the full driver from here

but the color option is missing and I can print no longer automatic duplex, just manual.

Every time I open the properties, it says "duplex not installed". I update it, it changes to "installed"

and soon it switches back to "not installed".

Another PC running Windows 10 is still printing duplex.

Any ideas?

If I connect the printer via USB and install it, everything works as expected.

As soon as I add it via Wifi, the issues appear.

This is strange.

Hi @torstenx,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like you're encountering issues with your HP OfficeJet 4650 printer when connected via Wi-Fi, specifically regarding duplex printing and missing color options. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues:

Use HP Smart App:

  • Installing and using the HP Smart app can help configure the printer properly over Wi-Fi.
  • Steps:
    1. Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or the HP website.
    2. Open the app and add your printer via Wi-Fi.
    3. Check the app for any available updates or settings related to duplex printing and color options.

3. Check Printer Settings:

  • After adding the printer via Wi-Fi, check the printer preferences to ensure duplex printing and color options are enabled.
  • Steps:
    1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click on your OfficeJet 4650 and select Printing Preferences.
    3. Ensure that duplex printing is set to Automatic and that the color option is available and selected.

4. Check Printer Properties in Windows:

  • Sometimes, printer properties in Windows need to be configured correctly.
  • Steps:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties.
    3. Go to the General tab and click on Preferences.
    4. Look for options related to color and duplex printing and adjust them accordingly.

5. Remove and Re-add the Printer:

  • If the above steps do not work, try removing the printer and re-adding it.
  • Steps:
    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    2. Select your OfficeJet 4650 and click on Remove device.
    3. Restart your computer and add the printer again using Add a printer or scanner.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @torstenx,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, connection issues can cause functionality problems.
  • Steps:
    1. Print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to check the connection status.
    2. Make sure your computer is on the same network as the printer.

7. Firewall and Security Software:

  • Sometimes, firewall or security software can block communication between the printer and computer.
  • Steps:
    1. Temporarily disable any third-party firewall or antivirus software.
    2. Check if you can access the color and duplex options.
    3. If it works, configure your firewall/antivirus settings to allow the printer connection.

8. Factory Reset the Printer:

  • If the issues persist, consider performing a factory reset on your printer to restore default settings.
  • Steps:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the duplex printing and color option issues with your HP OfficeJet 4650 over Wi-Fi.

If none of the above solutions work, it may be helpful to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Same issue with the smart app.

On the other hand the printer works perfectly from another PC running Windows 10.

This rules out a printer issue.

Hi @torstenx,

You are right. If this printer works fine with Windows 10, then this could be a compatibility issue with other OS.
