HP OfficeJet 4652 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I recently updated the OS on my Mac and now I can't print on my office jet 4652.  I also can't scan.  WHIle the printer shows in my settings, it is not communicating when I try to run a job.  I tried to ping the printer and got a message "no route to the host."

I have turned on/off the printer, my computer and the router with no success.  HELP!!!

Hi @PWS1956,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a connectivity issue between your MacBook Pro and the HP Officejet 4652 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure both your MacBook Pro and the HP Officejet 4652 printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that your MacBook Pro has a stable internet connection.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off both your MacBook Pro and the HP Officejet 4652 printer.
  • Turn off your router or modem.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn on the router or modem first.
  • Wait for it to fully restart, then turn on the printer followed by your MacBook Pro.

Verify Printer Settings on Mac:

  • Open System Preferences on your MacBook Pro.
  • Go to Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP Officejet 4652 printer from the list on the left.
  • Check if the printer status shows as "Idle" or "Offline". If it's offline, click on the "Resume" button to bring it online.
  • Make sure the printer is set as the default printer.

Reset Printing System:

  • Sometimes resetting the printing system can resolve communication issues.
  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left sidebar and select "Reset printing system".
  • Restart your MacBook Pro and add the HP Officejet 4652 printer again.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your MacBook Pro.
  • Visit the HP website, enter your printer model (Officejet 4652), and download the latest drivers compatible with your updated macOS version.

Check Firewall or Security Software:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your MacBook Pro that might be blocking communication with the printer.
  • Try printing again to see if the issue persists.

Ping and Network Troubleshooting:

  • If you continue to get "no route to the host" when pinging the printer, it suggests a network connectivity issue.
  • Verify if other devices can connect to the printer over the network.
  • Check if there are any IP address conflicts or if the printer has obtained a valid IP address from your router's DHCP server.

Factory Reset the Printer (if necessary):

  • As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the HP Officejet 4652 printer. This will reset all network settings.
  • Refer to your printer's manual or HP support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a more specific network configuration or compatibility issue related to the macOS update and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
