Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you try using a TCP/IP port?

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Let us know if that works

Hello and thank you for your quick response.

Unfortunately, there is no ports tab in printer properties.
Could this be because it is a network printer? (I should have mentioned it from the beginning).

Any other suggestions given the new info?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

How is the printer connected to the computer?  Wireless, USB or Ethernet?

TCP/IP port is for network connected.

Thanks.

Hi,

If it's wireless and it's connected to the network successfully with the FULL feature software installed, then we can create a TCP/IP port by following the video resource shared.

Thanks.

I have installed the full pack (except for OCR and one other totally unrelated feature) from the web so it should be the latest versions, but still there is no connections tab.

Hi,

Was the FULL feature software installed?

This resource will show you how it's done:

Download and install software for Officejet Pro 6970 series

(same family of printers except for different specs)

If help is needed to connect the printer to the network, this resource will show how it's done:

HP Officejet Pro 8700, 6900 series :Wireless: Setup Wizard

After successfully installing via wireless, try changing the TCP/IP port.

Hope that helps!

I finally found the Ports tab and added a TCP/IP port, but it didn't solve the issue.

Any other suggestions?

Was this every successfully answered?  I am also having the same issue with a 6968 on a wireless network.  After some time it goes into sleep mode and won't wake up until I run the Windows printer troubleshooter.
