I recently checked for software (driver and firmware) updates. I successfully downloaded and installed HP Easy Start-2. I then was able to successfully install the driver. But when it came to the firmware update, that is when my issue started. It listed my printer in the discovery phase, but never made it to update information. There is a icon that is a bunch of lines forming a circle and going round and round (similar to the circle of dots on Windows) and it never went to update information. If I click on the Continue button, the next screen says "Cannot update the device, this firmware updater does not contain upgrades for your device." Puzzling because the updater was downloaded from HP support.
I did go to the printer and check for updates and it said the printer was was up to date. But I am still puzzled why the updater got stuck. I tried it several times.

@BruceB13, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
If the printer already has the updated version of firmware installed, you will not be able to update the firmware again.
Print a Printer Status Report to check the current version of firmware installed on the printer:
-
From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Reports.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Status Report.
The latest version available is 2025A, release date: Jul 15, 2020

Thank you very much. I do understand that if I already have the updated version of firmware that I will not be able to update. I just found it interesting that when I tried using the updater tool, it found my printer and the icon that comes up showing that the program is working on something, never stopped. I had to hit cancel and close program (I am sorry if I am not explaining this correctly. I did try to post an image, but I was not able to). I never got a message that I already had the current version and the it was like the progam was continually searching. It did find my printer. When I tried a couple of different approaches, I did get messages that said I had the current version.
Thanks for responding to my post and providing me with the links.
