Dear Community,
after trying to solve the mistake for hours on my own and browsing this forum's entries without success I would like to ask for help.
I've been printing photos with the Officejet 7000, from different files, on different paper, with different settings, always without problems. Until yesterday the lamp of the Cyan-cartridge started flashing and -strangely enough - the printer started printing everything in blue, the darker it was. Means, absolute white comes out as absolute white, and the darker the color, the more blue it would be, until absolute black, which is printed as 100% Cyan (see below the printout with which it began; scanquality is bad). On color photos, too, only blue and white would be printed.
I ran all cleaning-prints, tried different settings from the software, printed both from InDesign and from pdf, converted the photos into greyscale, without change - everything would turn out in blue.
At last, I changed the setting from "photo paper" to "Inkjet paper" and switched from "high quality" to "normal quality". Suddenly, black would be printed as black, but the lights would be printed in blue. So exactly the opposite from what it did before (see below). On color photos, too, everything would turn out in blue, but grey replaced some of the colors, as if I had switched on "greyscale printout".
The cleaning-page turns out 100% correct!
And I have no idea, what the problem is. Yes, I am not using original HP Ink cartridges, but they've been working well for months.
I'd be very glad about any kind of help. Thanks in advance!

Hi @vonHugen,
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you require assistance regarding the printer printing incorrect colors. It will be a delight to assist you here.:)
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try making copies directly from the printer and check?
- Did you replace the ink cartridges and check if it prints correctly?
For a start please perform these steps:
Please make 2 copies in color directly from the printer and see if it copies correctly.
If it does, please uninstall the printer software by following these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2eECXvL and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer. This should fix the issue ideally as you are cleaning traces of the old printer from the computer.
This should do the trick for you.
If it fails to copy correctly and if you’ve performed all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2eED0aV for resolving print quality issues Then please contact HP phone support for getting it replaced as it could be a hardware issue with the printer.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Dear David,
thanks for Your comprehensive reply.
At very first I'm afraid to say that the Officejet 7000 is not capapble of doing copies.
Over the weekend I randomly switched cartridges, since I still had some old original HP cartridges around, empty though, but I had only greyscale photos to print anyway. That "confused" the software apparently so much that I could print one page in perfect quality, before the printer would start to print everything in blue, or also in green this time, again.
I did this twice and then gave up.
Today, the lights of the Cyan and Yellow cartridge were blinking, indicating that they're low on ink. Magenta, even though it was completely empty, did not blink. The printer started to print in green, as cyan and yellow together makes green. Why it starts to use even more of exactly that ink that it is low on, I have no idea.
I inserted a new Magenta cartridge and ran a cleaning print, which turned out 100% correct.
Then I followed Your advice and deleted every trace of the HP software from my PC, including the registry, before I reinstalled it. The automatic installation of the actual drivers, right after I am asked to plug in the USB cable, took much longer now than last time.
Yellow and Cyan are still blinking. But from the reinstallation on, I've printed about 20 pages in greyscale and color, and they all came out perfectly fine.
Resumée: Even though You think the printer is acting weird, first look at the software. I should have done that earlier...
