I am trying to install drivers from the HP site for a computer with a fresh copy of XP professional, but it wont let me.

It will extract the data, then it comes up with 'Install failed' if you click on details it states

'Installation Error

A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file c:\DOCUME-1\Michael\LOCALS-1\Temp\7zs6936\OJ761x86.cab has an invalid digital signature.  This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt.

What does this mean?  Can someone tell me what I need to do?

@Mike-in-wembley, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

This usually happens because:

Windows XP doesn’t recognize the digital signature algorithm used in the driver.

The CAB file is either corrupted or the signature is not recognized by XP’s outdated certificate system.

Make Sure the File Isn't Corrupted

Re-download the driver from HP’s site using a modern PC (if possible).

Transfer it to the XP machine via USB.

Try running it again.

Try Compatibility Mode or Extract the Driver Manually

Sometimes the installer fails, but the driver files are usable:

Extract the setup file.

Go to Device Manager.

Find your printer (it may show up as unknown).

Right-click > Update Driver > Choose location manually.

Point it to the folder with the extracted drivers.

Use the “Basic Driver” Instead

HP sometimes offers a “Basic” or “Universal” driver.

Go to HP's OfficeJet 7612 driver page

HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Avoid full-feature drivers on XP, as they often break due to signature problems.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have just tried to install the basic driver but again it failed to install.

I am running XP professional 32 bit SP2.  Would I be better installing SP 3 and 4?  I did try this with the full package but it didn't work.

I did try searching for the printer in device manager but couldn't find it.

I have also downloaded the driver on a Windows 10  machine and put it on a USB stick, which I then used to transfer the files to the XP machine.

I have also tried to connect the printer to the Xp machine, but that doesn't work either.
