Trying to install Officejet Pro 6830. Computer sees it, but shows it as offline. Tried numerous reboots & every hp troubleshooting tool. On the print & scan doctor it gets to setting that printer as default, but nothing happens when I click on that. Uninstalled & reinstalled driver several times.

You may need the full feature software package

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL54362/bi-131207-2/Full_Webpack-33.3.81_1-Full_Webpack.e...

There is a video here to show how to do the network connection.  Please connect the printer to the router.

I do not recommend the Wi-FI direct.  Any of the smartphones can get to the printer from the router just as easily as direct.

I assume this is windows 10/11 and not OSx,.  Unplug the USB cable.

Make sure the Wi-Fi is turned off and there is no ethernet cable connected.

Page 120 explains how to reset the printer

See page 6 and 7 for status LED display to be sure Wi-Fi is not enabled.

When you plug in the USB cable you should hear a beep and possibly see a notification.

Look in the device manager for USB error or Unknown device.

Any?  Post back here if a problem.

Roger on Win 10. I unplugged the usb cable, reset the printer & printer network settings to factory defaults, turned off the wifi, & tried it again. I did get the tone when I plugged it in. It's there in devices & printers, but still No joy.

I am about out of ideas.

Can you get a printer status report such as shown on page 83?

It should show USB connection and not wireless or ethernet.

I assume the USB cable is only a few feet long.

Ran the report- I don't see any mention of the usb connection, but it does show the network status as: offline. #19. isn't titled, but is listed as: Disconnected. I also ran a Web Access test result which says the printer is not connected to a network and it verified that the wireless feature has been turned off. I also ran a Network Config Report which also shows it as offline. I've actually tried 3 different usb cords with it. Shortest was about 3', current is about 5', none are longer than the max recommended 3 meters. Somewhere in all this I saw some mention of plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet. I have it plugged in to a UPS instead, but I'm hard pressed to see how that might cause this issue. Having said that, it's probably the next thing I'll try!
