HP Officeject Pro 8020
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello I just bought the HP Officejet Pro 8020. I am having trouble connect my Windows 10 Pro desktop to the printer through WiFi. I found an older thread that pertains to my issue: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Driver-Unavailable/td-p/5774414

Since this was an older thread I decided to just post a new one instead up-voting it. I tried following the instructions of setting the printer up through "HP Smart" but, it basically couldn't fix it. So, I manually connected it and it now says "Driver is unavailable" but, it is in my list of printers. I then tried following the instructions of "HP Print and Scan Doctor" and that did not work either. The program found the issue of the printer not being installed and downloaded the 8020 software. The "HP Officejet Pro 8020 series" software ran, I chose automatic setup. I then chose my device which was found and it then started "installing the network device." After a while of it trying to install, "Unsuccessful Network Installation" popped up and retrying to run the program did nothing but the same thing. I then tried to follow the thread's instructions of uninstalling everything from this desktop and restarting my desktop. This did not work either, even doing the same previous steps, and it is still showing the same problems. I also want to mention, I have a cellphone and a laptop connected to the printer already and, the WiFi on this computer fails to connect to the printer's WiFi network. Could this be part of the reason? Just for reference: there is a password on the printer's WiFi network, my desktop is also connected to the internet through LAN and, I've never had a printer connected to this desktop before this. Any help would be appreciated since this is the most important computer to be connected out of the 3.

Welcome to HP support community.

Did you uninstall the driver from root level and install the driver?

If not, follow the below steps:

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

I didn't uninstall it at the root.

Just for clarity and not having to repeat everything over again, should I uninstall all of the add-on's and plugin's for good measure? i.e. HP Dropbox plugin, HP EmailSMTP Plugin, etc.?

For reference: I don't use any other HP products atm and it shouldn't be tied to anything else.

Thank you for your help.

Yes, uninstall everything and try reinstalling.

I uninstalled everything that was HP. There wasn't anything I found in the root. I tried reinstalling it through your link and I'm back where I was: "Driver is Unavailable"

HP Smart was launched, I found the printer that was online, it searched for a driver for a while, it then just randomly stopped, I tried to manually connect it, Added the printer to "Printers and scanners" and used a pin to connect it, it connected and now it just says Driver is unavailable.

Now HP smart says the printer is offline but is actually online.

Just a side note: it works perfectly fine and connected easily on my phone and laptop.
