HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My officejet 8130e from Costco was just installed and does not properly.  The printer connects to my internet, HP Smart says the printer is ready, but when I try to print, nothing happens because the printer says it's Offline?  Any suggestions?

Hi @JimmyJFB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when your brand-new HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e printer says it's offline, even though it's connected to Wi-Fi and shows as "Ready" in HP Smart. You're not alone, and I’m here to help you fix this.

Steps to Fix the “Printer Offline” Issue on Windows 11

1. Restart Everything

Sometimes a simple restart can reset the connection:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it.
  • Restart your computer and Wi-Fi router.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing again.

2. Use HP Smart’s “Diagnose & Fix” Tool

This built-in tool can automatically detect and fix offline issues:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 PC.
  • Click your printer, then go to “Diagnose & Fix”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Check Network Connection

Make sure your printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. If your computer is on Ethernet and your printer is on Wi-Fi, they might not communicate properly.

4. Re-add the Printer

Sometimes re-adding the printer helps:

  • Open HP Smart or Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove the printer.
  • Click Add device and follow the steps to reconnect it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
