HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I just bought an HP Officejet Pro 9120e printer.  One of the key features it has that I need is automatic duplex printing.

After connecting this printer to my home network, and configuring it (with a Macbook running MacOS 13.7), I do not see any duplex printing options, i.e., in typical print dialog boxes, e.g., in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat.

I then tried a MS Surface running Windows, and the duplex options appear.

How do I get the duplex functions to be accessible from my Macbook?

Note - I have another HP printer (Officejet Pro 8600) that works fine for duplex printing from my Macbook.

You mention 9120 and 9125 and also MacOS 12 and 13

if the Duplex option does not show up then possibly MacOS is using the 8600 driver for the 9120 or 9125 printer. Just guessing.

Above image came from 14.3.1

Sorry for any confusion regarding printer model and OS:  the printer is 9125e, and the MacOS is Ventura 13.7 (the OS options in the dropdowns when I submitted the question didn't have any MacOS beyond 12).

I believe I have the latest HP Smart, v 17.25.1.  When I look at printer options in HP Smart, there is no double-sided option displayed.

Per the printer status report, the firmware version is 6.23.1.17-20240892238. HP Support site says this was released Sep 3 2024.

From the Mac system settings, the printer driver is 3.0.  I have attempted to delete and reinstall the printer, following the steps in an HP support video from the HP support site.

Nothing I have tried fixes the problem - frustrating!

Update:  Unexpectedly, when I came back the following day to continue investigating the missing duplex printing capability, it had somehow resolved itself.  It is now available and working from my Macbook. I'm puzzled as to what changed.

Just installed my new printer - 9120e and duplex not showing up. Was hoping to see how you fixed this... Any idea what happened? I have mac also.

Sorry, but I’m not sure what action I took, or whether any I action I took, eliminated the missing duplex problem. It was absent and multiple printer removals and reinstallations on the MacBook didn’t fix it. Not did reboots. Only after sitting overnight did it appear.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I did fix it last night. I did a whatsapp chat with HP and they talked me through deleting the printer and re-adding it. The setting to change to duplex was in the printer configuration page via the HP website on an embedded web server page, that somehow appeared. Hope this is of help in case anyone else comes looking for an answer.
