HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer keeps trying to load a software update and then telling m,e it copuld not be downloaded. Press to continue and printer runs for a while and then goes through to update process once again. Tried doing a manual software update but this says that the status is up to date. Printer has been running for a couple of years without any issues, this problem started a few days ago. This is very frustrating, how can I fix it?

Hi @WearyEric,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-In-One Printer is repeatedly attempting to load a software update but failing to download it, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Restart your printer: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the back, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Power on the printer and check if the update process starts again.
  • Check your internet connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to a stable internet connection. If you're using a wireless connection, make sure the signal strength is strong and there are no network issues.
  • Clear temporary files: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Settings or Setup menu. Look for an option to clear temporary files or cache. Select that option to remove any temporary files that may be interfering with the update process.
  • Update manually (if available): Visit the HP support website (www.support.hp.com) and search for your printer model. Look for any available firmware or software updates for your printer. If you find an update, download it to your computer, transfer it to a USB drive, and then connect the USB drive to your printer to manually update the firmware.
  • Factory reset (if necessary): If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to perform a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase any custom settings you have made on the printer. Refer to your printer's user manual or visit the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
