Got a new HP laptop 6 months ago. Printed ok on Old HP 6830 Printer but now it will not print all of a sudden. HP says my printer is obsolete and will not support it and tried to sell me a new one.

Hi @ThereseQ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP printer. It can be frustrating when a device suddenly stops working properly. I can offer you some general troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem.

  • Check connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your laptop. Verify the USB or network cables are securely plugged in.
  • Restart devices: Restart both your laptop and the printer. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Update printer drivers: Visit the official HP website and search for the latest drivers for your printer model. Download and install any available updates, as they can often address compatibility issues.
  • Check printer settings: Make sure your printer is set as the default printing device on your laptop. Additionally, check the printer settings for any potential issues or error messages.
  • Run printer troubleshooter: Most operating systems have built-in printer troubleshooters. Access the settings or control panel on your laptop, find the troubleshooting section, and run the printer troubleshooter.
  • Test with another device: If possible, try connecting the printer to another computer or laptop to see if it works correctly. This can help determine if the issue lies with your laptop or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I’ve tried everything you suggested. The old printer worked with the new laptop at first, but not now. I keep getting an error message saying that there is a paper jam when there isn’t and now the ink cartridge carrier is stuck Too many problems.
