i Just bought a new computer and I'm having a printing issue with my old and reliable HP Officejet 8500 A909a. It prints text fine, but when there is an image or printing a picture, it prints the beginning of the image and then stops printing. I tried numerous things. Original setup disk will not load on my Windows 11 computer. This printer worked perfectly on Windows 10, and still works fine with my Windows 10 computer.

Hi @DaveInMainevill,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble with your HP Officejet 8500 A909a printer when printing images on your new Windows 11 computer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for your HP Officejet 8500 A909a that are compatible with Windows 11.
- Download and install the updated drivers, which may resolve compatibility issues.
Reinstall the Printer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on your Windows 11 computer.
- Select your HP Officejet 8500 A909a and click Remove device.
- Restart your computer.
- Re-add the printer by selecting Add device and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall it.
Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that the printer settings are configured correctly for image printing. Sometimes settings for image quality or paper type can affect printing.
- Access the printer properties from Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Printer properties. Check the settings under the Advanced or Printing Preferences tabs.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated as sometimes compatibility issues are resolved in updates.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
Use Windows Troubleshooter:
- Windows 11 has a built-in troubleshooter for printers that can diagnose and fix common issues.
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and run the Printer troubleshooter.
Check Printer Firmware:
- Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer on the HP Support website. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve printing issues.
If none of these steps work, there might be a deeper compatibility issue with Windows 11.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4 - thank you so much for trying to help me.
On the HP Support Website, I do not see a driver offered for my printer. Instructions on the website refer to a built-in driver on Windows... "Installing Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution. Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system."
I believe that is what I did. Can you tell me if there is a specific driver I can download from HP for the HP Officejet 8500 A909a? And is the driver built into Windows my only option?

I finally solved the issue today by using the compatibility troubleshooter in windows 11. Since I had the original disk from 2009 (which would not run in my new computer), I used the troubleshooter to install it, and I was amazed that it loaded properly, and my old printer now functions on my new PC.
