I have an HP Smart Tank 7301 printer driven from my HP Omnibook Flip Laptop. Whenever I boot up I get a notification that a new printer driver is available. I click "Yes" to Update. It opens up the HP support App which correctly shows my Printer and Laptop. I choose the Printer icon which is correctly communicating with the printer. However, there is nowhere anywhere in the app that I can find to take the action to update the driver. Meanwhile, the notification keeps popping up in windows. Rinse. Repeat.

One thing I have not tried is to select the option in the HP App to switch back to the HP Smart app.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hi @MWatLarge

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the situation. You are receiving repeated notifications about a printer driver update for your HP Smart Tank 7301, but when you select “Yes,” the HP App opens without providing a clear option to complete the update.

Let’s go through the /steps to ensure the driver is updated successfully and the notification stops appearing.

Download the latest driver directly from HP Support:

  • Go to the official HP support page: Link
  • Enter HP Smart Tank 7301 in the search box.
  • Select your operating system (Windows 11).
  • Download the full feature software and driver package.

Install the driver manually:

  • Locate the downloaded file in your Downloads folder.
  • Right‑click the file and select Run as administrator.
  • Follow the on‑screen instructions to complete installation.

Use the HP App’s Diagnose & Fix tool:

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Select your printer.
  • Go to ManageAdvanced Settings.
  • Run Diagnose & Fix. This ensures the driver is properly installed and clears pending update prompts.

Check Windows Update integration:

  • Open SettingsWindows Update.
  • Select Check for updates.
  • If the printer driver appears, allow Windows to install it. This synchronizes the driver with the HP App.

Verify installation:

  • Open Devices and Printers in Windows.
  • Confirm your HP Smart Tank 7301 is listed and set as default.
  • Print a test page to ensure functionality.

By downloading and installing the driver directly from HP Support, then running the Diagnose & Fix tool in the HP App, you can complete the update and stop the repeated notifications.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
