I have a laptop that I use for work and it travels between my home and office. Both places have local networks with printers on them and every time I connect to the office network I have to reinstall the printer drivers for that printer before it recognizes my laptop. The printer on my home network doesn't have this issue as often, but occasionally it will refuse to connect as well. I have tried using the HP Smart app but that doesnt seem to allow me to scan using the buttons on the printer for some reason, at least with the office printer.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series running Windows 10 Home.

The home printer is an HP Officejet Pro 7740.

The office printer is an HP Office Jet Pro 9020, there is also an Office Jet Pro 8620 but that is mostly used by another computer.

Basically, I just want to be able to move between these two networks without having to uninstall/reinstall printer drivers every day or so.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please download and run the HP Print And Scan Doctor ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Keep me posted
