One or more cartridges are missing or damaged.
I have had this printer for around a year and frankly, wish I’d never bought it. I’ve spent more time troubleshooting problems than I wish.
I recently changed the cartridges having purchased them from the HP store and it’s been working fine but today mid print the printer stopped working with the above message!! I have followed the troubleshooting process, removing and reseating the same cartridges and checked everything including the carrier seating. But the message won’t clear and the printer won’t work apparently unless I change the cartridges. Do I now have to purchase another set of printer cartridges having only just bought these? Frankly a bit of a joke I’ve lost confidence in Hp products.

Hi @Malcycee ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having a frustrating experience with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. If you've recently replaced the cartridges and the printer stopped working mid-print with the "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged" message, it could be due to a few different issues:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure that the cartridges are installed correctly and fully seated. Sometimes, even a slight misalignment can cause issues.
- Inspect the Cartridges: Check for any visible damage to the cartridges. Ensure that the protective tape or seals are completely removed from the cartridges. Sometimes, even small pieces of tape or packaging can cause problems.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth. This can help ensure a good connection.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute or two, then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a simple reset can resolve the issue.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Perform a Printer Reset: Some printers have a reset function that can be accessed through the printer's menu. Consult the user manual or HP support for instructions on how to perform a reset.
- Try Another Set of Cartridges: If possible, try using another set of cartridges to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the cartridges themselves.

I hope this helps.
