Microsoft Windows 11

I have detected a problem with the HP support website. I cannot reach support until I enter my OfficeJetPro 8610 serial number. But when I enter the number correctly, the website says "Please enter a valid serial number."

This is not a customer error. This is a website flaw. Please get it fixed.

Hi @Timothy32,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern about  how  that must feel  you’re trying to enter the serial number, yet the system isn’t recognizing your serial number

Let’s work together to get you connected to the help you need.

Sometimes the website requires the full model designation.

Here are a few steps that often resolve this issue:

  1. Check serial format: Ensure you’re entering the serial number exactly as shown on the printer label  it should be alphanumeric, without spaces or special characters.
  2. Locate serial number: Double-check the serial number from the printer’s control panel (under Settings → Reports → Printer Status Report) instead of the physical sticker, in case of wear or misreading.
  3. Try alternate entry: If the website rejects the serial number, try entering the product number (usually starts with “A9…” for the OfficeJet Pro 8610).
  4. Clear browser cache: Sometimes cached data interferes with validation. Clearing cookies/cache or trying a different browser can help.
  5. Use HP Support Assistant: If the website continues to block you, the HP Support Assistant app can detect your device automatically and bypass manual entry.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
