I am looking for installation software for my HP Deskjet 5550 printer I inherited from my Dad. I can't seem to find any support on the HP site. It isn't on the list of discontinued printers. I have downloaded several installation files from various websites without success.

Hi:
Below is the link to the support page for that model printer.

You posted that you are running Windows XP?
If so, here is the direct link to that software file...

Paul,
Thanks for the prompt reply! I have tried both solutions already without success. The first link brings you to a download page for inkjet printers not deskjet printers. The second link brings you to a download page for the installation software file. I downloaded it and tried to install it without success. Just as before, the installation dialog box appears and when I click install it locks up and doesn't finish the install. I does install an assistant but it doesn't function as it should (no services, i.e., calibrate and align). Any other ideas?

You're very welcome.
That is the support page for your printer. It is a HP Deskjet 5550 Color Inkjet Printer.
I used the free 7-zip file utility, and unzipped the exe file I had posted into its folder.
There were errors during the extraction process, but the actual drivers are there in the folder, in the win2k_xp folder.
You would have to try and manually install the drivers since the auto installation doesn't work.
I don't know anything about HP printers, so I wouldn't be able to suggest anything else other than extracting the exe file into its folder and manually installing the driver.
I only knew where the support page was, in answer to your question.
The file is only good for Windows 2000/XP.
For newer operating systems, you follow the guidance to install the driver at the link below.
