HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw Printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I just recently purchased a printer. I'm trying to set up the HP firmware updater, asks me for the PIN/Password that is located by the print cartridge access area and it turns out that it shows that is incorrect. I went ahead and did some reading and apparently, this HP printer has been set-up before so it won't let me use same pin. I need to contact HP support for them to get it reset or for them to send me another on. I should i go about?

Is there a good number that i just call or thru this method, someone will be able to help me?

Hi @CANCERVERO,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw asks for a PIN during firmware update, only to reject it, especially when you're on macOS 10.13 High Sierra and just want to get your new printer working. You're doing everything right by researching and reaching out, and I’m here to guide you forward.

Factory Reset the Printer

Sometimes a full reset helps:

  • On the printer control panel, press Home > Setup (gear icon) > Network Settings.
  • Choose Restore Network Defaults.
  • Then go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.

This won’t reset the claim status, but it ensures the printer is ready for reconfiguration once HP unlocks it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
