Hi @Bob_Colapietro,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To unlock the display menu on your HP LaserJet Pro 4001n printer, you can perform a factory reset. This process should restore the printer to its default settings, including unlocking the display menu. Here's how you can do it.

Factory Reset Process

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Make sure the printer is completely turned off.

Turn On the Printer:

  • Turn the printer back on and wait for the HP logo to appear on the screen.

Access the Preboot Menu:

  • As soon as the HP logo appears, press and hold the "Cancel" button (usually marked with an "X") until the "Preboot" menu appears on the display.

Navigate to Administrator Settings:

  • Use the arrow buttons to navigate to "Administrator" and press the "OK" button.

Restore Factory Settings:

  • In the "Administrator" menu, find and select "Restore Factory Settings."
  • Confirm your choice when prompted. The printer will begin the process of restoring factory settings.

Wait for the Process to Complete:

  • The printer will restart during this process. Wait until it fully restarts and displays the home screen.

After the Reset

Once the factory reset is complete, the display menu should be unlocked, and you should be able to access all the settings.

Note:

  • Performing a factory reset will erase any custom settings or configurations, so you will need to reconfigure the printer settings after the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Adlen,

Thank you so much for the courtesy of your reply; it is appreciated.

I spent a number of hours with your support group over the phone yesterday with extremely poor results.

I decided to use Asurion to assist me with this issue.

They resolved the problem in less than 10 minutes by tunneling to my computer and resolving the issue.

Not something your phone support individual even offered up to me.

I've been an HP corporate and retail client for over 30 years and I'm quite disappointed with this last case experience.

Again, I thank you for the information and I will file it away for future (hopefully not) use.

I have a new HP LaserJet Pro 4001n (model 2Z599F) that also has a locked display menu. I've tried this process a dozen times and it never enters the preboot menu. Is there anything else I can try?
