I have an envy 6455 that has suddenly decided that the only paper size in the printer is 5x7, even though I’ve never put anything but letter sized papers in the printer. This is only a problem on my iPhone 12 running iOS 17.1. On my iPad, running iPadOS 17.1, it shows letter. Same on my Mac mini. I’ve tried unplugging the printer and waiting at least 60 seconds. I’ve checked the settings in the HP Smart app on the iPhone and don’t see anything there to change it. It shows 8.5x11 for the large paper size. The drivers are up to date.  Also, when I try to enter the serial number from the printer info page, this website says it’s not valid. Any ideas?  Thanks.

Not sure -- I am just now updating my iPad Pro 12.9 to 16.7.2 -- 17.x shows as available.

A new iPhone 15 shows 17.x -- HP Smart is not yet installed on the device.

If you have any additional (not mentioned) devices where HP Smart is installed, make sure that device is also updated to the latest version for that device's platform.  It sounds odd but can be important.

If you have not done so,

Try / Consider

Restart the printer and all the devices where you have HP Smart installed

If you have not done so,

Try / Consider

Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) -

EWS is also available from within the HP Smart application in Advanced

Click on each of the paper sizes - click to select a different paper size

Repeat and select the paper size you want as the default paper size for that paper size category.

What does this do?  Maybe nothing -- it might "kick" the paper size setting to "reset" it.

General Example - EWS - Tray and Paper - Retain / Modify paper size settings on printer

Retain_Printing_Preferences_20Retain_Printing_Preferences_20

I had restarted the printer and had tried changing paper sizes in the EWS in the HP Smart app. There are no other devices running HP Smart. The one thing I didn’t do, I’m ashamed to admit, is restart my iPhone. That’s Tech Support 101. That seems to have fixed the problem! Thanks!

Yes - Even iOS likes a Restart.  😉

You are welcome.

Happy Printing.
