HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I just purchased a HP OfficeJet Pro 8135 and found out the paper tray does not have a locking feature for 8-1/2x11 paper. If you unlock it from the A4 paper position and slide the two halves all the way in to fit the 8-1/2x11 paper size it does not lock in place. The vibration from printing moves the 2 halves apart causing the paper to jam every time you print. This is a design flaw and must be fixed! I should NOT have to make a spacer to hold the paper in position to make a brand new printer work correctly.

Hi @MD-1679,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Try the below suggestions

Reset the product

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the printer.

Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware -HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

You may also try the steps in the document Paper Jam error.

Opening the print settings window

Launch the HP Laser print driver window from common Windows applications and learn how to navigate the different tabs and menus.

Open the document or photo on your computer, click File or the menu icon, and then click Print.

Print or Print Pictures window or pane opens with general print job settings, including the menu to select the printer you want to print to.

Open Document Properties or Printing Preferences from the main print window or pane to access the HP Laser print driver settings. The button or link name varies depending on the app you are printing from.

Microsoft Word: Click Printer Properties

Paint and WordPad: Click Preferences

Windows Photo Viewer: Click Options... in the lower right corner of the screen, and then click Printer Properties... in the Print Settings window

Adobe PDF Reader: Click Properties

To view the different settings, click the tabs along the top of the window.

HP Document Properties window with settings tabs

Click the Favorites tab to use shortcuts that have essential settings already selected for common print job types.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This Printer appears to only have the provisions built in to the Printer Tray to accommodate A4 paper and Legal (8-1/2”x14”) paper without causing paper jams. The printer needs a locking feature to accommodate 11” long paper like the original design, but this time it needs to be placed it the correct position (see photo below)

Let me explain… When the paper tray is set to the A4 paper position, it has an additional ~7/8 – 1” space between the end of the paper and the button used for Legal size paper adjustment (see attached photo below).

The two halves can be slid together by unlocking it from the A4 position, but it cannot be locked into position, since there are no provisions for locking. If they do not lock into position, then it will cause a paper jam. The only solution I have found is to create a spacer to place between the paper stack and the button as shown in the photo below to keep the paper stack from moving around.
