HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw

I've forgotten the password on my printer and am having no luck finding a way to reset it. Is there a way to reset the admin password so I can access the printer settings again?

Hi @pnwuw,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've forgotten the admin password for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw printer, you can try a few methods to reset it. Here are some steps you can follow.

Default Password: First, try the default password, which is often found in the user manual or on a sticker on the printer itself. The default password is usually something like "admin" or "password." Try these common defaults to see if they work.

Factory Reset: If the default password doesn't work, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. Please note that this will reset all settings on the printer, including network settings, so you will need to reconfigure the printer after the reset.

  • a. Turn off the printer.
  • b. Press and hold the Resume button on the front panel.
  • c. While holding the Resume button, turn on the printer.
  • d. Continue to hold the Resume button until all three LED lights on the front panel are lit.
  • e. Release the Resume button, and the printer will perform a factory reset.

Keep in mind that performing a factory reset will erase all custom settings and configurations on your printer, so make sure to back up any important settings or documents before proceeding with the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Alden4, Thanks for your response! Unfortunately that didn't work. I followed your instructions (though my printer only has 2 LEDs, not 3), but the printer started up normally and still asks me for an admin password when I try to access the setup or wireless menus. The default passwords you noted don't work either. Is there anything else I can try?
