Hi @Madre16,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your PC recognizes the HP printer but indicates that it does not have a driver or there's a driver error, here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Connectivity and Cables: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your PC via USB cable or network connection. Sometimes, connectivity issues can lead to driver errors.

Restart Printer and PC: Turn off both the printer and your PC, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on. This can help refresh the connection and clear temporary issues.

Use Windows Update: Windows Update often provides drivers for various hardware devices, including printers. Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date.

Install Latest Driver from HP Website: Visit the official HP website and search for your printer model. Download and install the latest driver and software package for your printer. This should include the necessary drivers to ensure proper communication between your PC and the printer.

Device Manager: You can manually update or install the driver through the Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Locate your printer under "Print queues" or "Other devices."
  • Right-click on the printer and choose "Update driver" or "Install driver."
  • Select the option to search for drivers automatically. Windows might find and install the appropriate driver.

Uninstall and Reinstall Printer: Sometimes, a corrupted printer driver might cause issues. Uninstall the printer from your PC, restart your PC, and then reinstall the printer using the latest drivers from the HP website.

Driver Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and resolve driver-related issues. Search for "Troubleshoot" in the Windows search bar, then select "Troubleshoot settings." Run the troubleshooter for printers and hardware devices.

Compatibility Mode: If you're using an older printer model on a newer version of Windows, you can try installing the driver in compatibility mode:

  • Right-click on the driver installer file.
  • Select "Properties" and navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select an older version of Windows.
  • Apply the settings and run the installer.

Check for Firmware Updates: Some printers have firmware updates that can resolve compatibility issues. Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
