My PC sees the printer when I attach it but printer shows up in the "Unspecified" section of "Devices and Printers" with a yellow exclamation point sign. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting. Tried searching for updated driver. Downloaded and installed driver set from HP. Manually installed printer, which placed the printer in the "Printers and faxes" section but will not print and exclamation point triangle shows up after I try to print to it. Ran through all Windows troubleshooting suggestions. When I try to print spooler window says "Error - printing". Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

@Dave8833, Welcome to HP Support Community!
This could be an issue with the installed printer driver or the printer configuration. Follow the steps below-
Restart the print spooler and try uninstalling the drivers
Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
Now uninstall and reinstall the printer driver. Follow the steps below-
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2) Select your HP Printer
3) Select Uninstall
4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”
😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab
9) Look for the HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10) Select Ok
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12) Close Devices and Printers.
Now, download and install the full-featured software from here.
If the issue persists, I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:
• Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
• When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.
• Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.
Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help
Let me know the outcome.

TEJ160, thank you for your response. I followed your instructions but a driver that got installed when I connected the printer cannot be deleted as it says "The specified printer driver is in use". This driver is for the Officejet 4300 series, which is what Windows recognized the printer as when I first connected it. I stopped the Print Spooler service and tried to remove it again, but then it says I have to restart the service before attempting to remove the driver. The printer is not connected to the PC, I have restarted the PC multiple times, nothing is being sent to any printer but I can't remove the driver through this procedure. Is there another way to remove it? Also, in Print Server Properties under Ports under LPT1 it shows the Officejet 4300 although nothing is attached to the USB port.

Thank you for your reply.
Once you stop the spooler services, you'll have to restart the print spooler. Follow the steps below-
Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
When the services are up and running, try to uninstall and reinstall.
If the issue persists, perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
