I have a MacBook Pro, Sonoma 14.6.1. I am trying to print something on my HP Photosmart C4780. The drop down menu for OS only goes to 10.9. Am I going to be able to use this printer with my computer? I have a connector cord so I don't need to have it work wirelessly.

Hi @Bee124,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Photosmart C4780 is an older printer, and it may not have drivers that are directly compatible with macOS Sonoma (10.9.). However, you might still be able to get it working with your MacBook Pro through a few steps:
Steps to Try:
Use the Built-in Printer Driver on macOS: macOS comes with built-in drivers for many printers, even if the official drivers are outdated. Here's how to try this:
- Connect the printer via USB using your connector cord.
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" button to add a printer.
- If your HP Photosmart C4780 appears in the list, select it and macOS should attempt to use a generic driver for it.
Use the AirPrint Driver (even without wireless): If macOS doesn't have specific drivers for the Photosmart C4780, it may still work with AirPrint, Apple's wireless printing standard, which can sometimes work over a USB connection:
- Follow the steps above for adding a printer, and if the C4780 is detected, see if AirPrint is listed as the "Use" option when adding it.
HP Easy Start (optional): You can try downloading the HP Easy Start tool from HP’s website, which might be able to find a compatible solution:
- Go to the HP support page and search for "HP Easy Start for macOS".
- Follow the installation instructions to see if it helps detect and install your printer.

I hope this helps.
