Hello, I recently upgraded the hardware in my Windows 10 laptop and now I’ve lost the icon on my task bar to do a quick start of my HP OfficeJet 7740 all-in-one printer. Help please & thanks.

Hi @SSIdrifter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how inconvenient it must be to lose quick access to your printer after your hardware upgrade—let’s work together to get that quick-start icon back on your taskbar.
- Do you still have the HP printer software (e.g., HP Smart or HP Print Assistant) installed on your laptop?
- Can you still access the printer and its features through the Control Panel or the HP Smart app, or has the connection to the printer been disrupted entirely?
- Did the previous quick-start icon open a specific app (e.g., HP Smart) or take you directly to a feature like scanning or printing?
Let's try these steps.
Reinstall HP Printer Software:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest software for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.
- Reinstall it, which should restore the quick-start options and potentially the taskbar icon.
Locate and Pin the Application:
- Open the Start Menu and search for the HP software you used previously (e.g., HP Smart, HP Printer Assistant).
- Right-click on the app and select Pin to Taskbar.
Check Taskbar Settings:
- Right-click the taskbar and go to Taskbar Settings.
- Ensure the setting for showing pinned icons is enabled and there’s enough space for new icons.
Manually Add the Icon:
- Navigate to the folder where the HP software is installed (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\).
- Find the application executable (e.g., HPSmart.exe or PrinterAssistant.exe).
- Right-click on it, select Pin to Taskbar, and rename it for clarity if needed.
Verify Printer Connection:
- Open Devices and Printers from the Control Panel.
- Ensure the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is listed as a connected device. If not, re-add it using Add a Printer and test to confirm full functionality.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
