Hello,

My name is Luiz, and I am writing to request assistance. I recently purchased a Smart Tank 520 All-in-One Color Printer, but I am unable to connect it to my MacBook. I tried everything I could find online, including the following video that was suggested by an HP employee in another discussion. Could someone please shed some light on this issue?

Hi @LuizGeraldo,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to connect your HP Smart Tank 520 printer to your MacBook. Let's troubleshoot the issue step by step.

1. Confirm Compatibility

  • Ensure your MacBook is running a macOS version compatible with the HP Smart Tank 520. Check the printer's documentation or HP's website for compatibility details.

2. Download HP Smart HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Install the latest version of the HP Smart app for macOS from HP's official website.

3. Check Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure both your MacBook and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • If the printer isn't connected to Wi-Fi, follow these steps to reconnect:
    1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button until the wireless light starts blinking.
    2. Open the HP Smart app on your MacBook.
    3. Select Set up a new printer and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Reset Printer Network Settings

  • If the printer was previously connected to a different network, reset its network settings:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button on the printer for 5 seconds.
    • The printer will restart, and the wireless light will start blinking.

5. Use USB Setup (Optional) HP printer setup (USB cable)

  • If the Wi-Fi setup isn't working, try connecting the printer to your MacBook via a USB cable and set it up:
    1. Connect the printer to your MacBook using a USB cable.
    2. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    3. Click the "+" icon and select your printer from the list.

6. Check Printer Firmware and Drivers Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date. You can update it through the HP Smart app or by downloading the firmware from HP's website.
  • Confirm that you have the correct drivers installed. Visit the printer's support page to download the latest drivers.

7. MacBook Firewall and Permissions

  • Ensure your MacBook's firewall or security settings aren’t blocking printer connections:
    • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall and temporarily disable it to test the connection.

I hope this helps.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I have already tried all of these options without success. I tested the printer with a Windows laptop, and it worked perfectly.

I am really frustrated with this situation.
