Welcome to the HP English Community --
What you do depends on what tools you have to complete the task.
The printer is not aware of what it is printing and will (in this case, at least) do what it is told.
For example,
Should you be using a supported version of Windows for which there is full driver printer software, then Adobe Reader is a good choice for printing your PDF files in Poster size.
=================================================
Poster Printing is possible for most printers that can print one page after another.
One of the many articles on the subject:
How to Make Your Own Posters Using Tiled Printing
Tiled printing is when you print out a large image over several pieces of paper, with each piece of paper acting as a “tile,” hence the name. From there, you line up the tiles to form a grid, thus creating your huge wall poster.
The task requires an application or software that can divide the content into the requisite pieces to create the poster.
Applications and software are dependent on the Operating System / version.
Most common -- and easy to use -- Adobe Reader can print a PDF document in Poster format.
The following example is relevant to a supported version of Windows -
Print PDF - Size or Poster
Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader DC
Click the Print icon
Open Properties
Set Shortcut to Everyday Printing (Plain paper, single sided)
Select your Paper Size
Click OK to save change(s) and Exit the Properties menu
Next,
Main print menu
Page Sizing & Handling
If printing at 100% or smaller, and the content fits on the paper, Page Sizing & Handling = Size
Then select Actual, Fit / Shrink to fit, percentage (wording varies)
OR
If printing “larger than 100%”, or the content size requires it, Page Sizing & Handling = Poster
Poster Printing - Notes
- If the page size is equal to or smaller than the paper size and you want the output larger, increase the Tile Size
- If the file is already larger than the paper size, it will be divided into Tiled sheets needed to print the file
- Enter an "overlap" and whether you want the "cut marks" included
When ready, click to Print

Image Printing in Poster?
Not quite as "smart" as Adobe Reader, Paint can print in Poster format.
(No cut lines and you have to select the percentage of 100%)
