Welcome to the HP Community --
We see stories like this nearly every day.
We are sorry you were trapped.
Who ever you contacted was not HP Support.
Not.
Rascal sites all over the Internet scheme, lie, swindle, and cheat people every single day by either claiming outright they are HP or being sneaky about how they describe their services.
All major companies are plagued by vermin.
When you let someone into your computer, they have access to everything on the computer that is not encrypted and behind a security wall. This includes documents, pictures of your family, tax forms that you copied and saved on the computer, medical forms, "all your stuff".
Details...
There are thousands of "support" sites on the Internet.
Every major company, including HP, is plagued by scam sites that promise, beg, threaten, or pretend to be the good guys.
HP Support does not post free-to-find phone numbers on the Internet.
HP Support does not transfer you to scammers and thieves,
HP Support does not threaten, promise, lie, beg, or cajole,
HP Support does not sneak into your computer,
HP Support does not track you,
HP Support does not sell any products to clear your computer of imaginary bugs.
HP Support does not want to sell you security software.
HP Support requires that you submit your online in-Warranty Repair request to the proper channel for your region.

Printer Support / Setup
Beware of Fake Sites
The "Real Deal"
123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site
The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.
There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.
If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!

You are welcome.
I'm sorry that true wisdom always comes with a price.
Good Luck going forward.
If you get to the point where it's "just a lot",
Consider talking to a family member, clergy, neighbor, or colleague.
