HP LaserJet P1505 Printer
Other

I'm using a MacBook Air M2 and running mac OS 15.0.1 Sequoia on it.  I have an old HP LaserJet P1505 that I'd like to try to use with this laptop.   I have a wireless connection and also the proper USB cable to connect the laptop and the printer together.  I've tried, without success, to locate a print driver for it on this, the HP support site.  Before I have to (quite possibly) chuck this old LaserJet, I wanted to make every effort to find a driver, if one still exists, for it.

Any help or ideas out there ?

THANK YOU!!

Hi @Mercury7

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

You can often use older printers like the HP LaserJet P1505 with newer Macs, but finding the right driver can be a challenge. Here’s how to set it up on your MacBook Air M2:

Steps to Install the HP LaserJet P1505 on macOS

Check for Built-in Driver:

  • macOS often includes generic drivers for older printers. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a printer. If your LaserJet P1505 appears in the list, select it and see if you can use the built-in driver.

Use AirPrint:

  • Some HP printers support AirPrint, which allows you to print without needing a specific driver. Check if your printer can connect via AirPrint when adding it in Printers & Scanners.

Download HP App:

  • Download the HP app from the Mac App Store. This app can help with printer setup and may automatically find the right drivers.

Download Legacy Drivers:

  • If the above methods don’t work, you can try downloading the driver from HP’s support site:
    • Visit the HP Support page.
    • Search for "HP LaserJet P1505."
    • Look for any available drivers under the “Software and Drivers” section. You may need to try older versions compatible with macOS.

Install Driver Manually:

  • If you find a compatible driver, download it and follow the installation instructions provided.
  • After installation, return to Printers & Scanners to add the printer again.

Using USB Connection:

  • If using a USB cable, connect it to the Mac and the printer.
  • The Mac should recognize the printer and attempt to install the necessary drivers automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
