I installed a new HP Envy 7855 and now when I select a picture from Photos and select Print, the print preview is now displayed as black & white rather than color, and it no longer gives me the option to print in color or b&w. I confirmed with Apple that this is not an Apple issue.
Happy New Year!

Did you use the HP Smart app and try printing?
Check the print settings on the iOS device before printing.(Printing via AirPrint)
-
Make sure the printer is turned on, ink cartridges are installed, and plain paper is loaded in the main tray.
-
Open the item you want to print, and then tap the Share icon
or
.
-
Tap Print or the Print icon
to open Printer Options.
-
Tap Select Printer to select your printer.
-
Change any of the following print job settings. Available settings vary depending on the app you are printing from, the print job type, and your printer.
-
Paper: Make any paper size changes on the printer. AirPrint automatically detects the paper size loaded in the printer or the size selected on the printer control panel. If the detected size is different than the paper in the tray, an error might display asking to confirm the size.
-
Number of copies: Select how many copies you want to print.
-
Black & White: Select to print in grayscale. This option only displays for color printers.
-
Double-sided printing: Print on both sides of the paper for certain file types.
-
Page range: Select specific pages within a document or webpage to print.
-
Let me know how this goes.

I have confirmed that mi iOS device is updated and myHP says the printer is current. However, when in iOS photos and I pull up a photo and click on print, the preview is black & white and still no option to print the photo in color or b&w.
apple sent me an HP article where HP acknowledges this is a known issue at HP.

When I follow the steps in the solution I only have options for number of copies and paper size. This is the same whether I use the inbuilt apple print app or HP Smart.
The printer prints in colour from my laptop and from scans and in diagnosis mode so it is an Ipad problem - please help !
