Microsoft Windows Server 2019

For two days, I have successfully installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the LaserJet M553 onto and from my Windows print server. At every step during each process, there was never an error message. Driver installation on the print server, detection and communication with the printer using its IP address, and sending print jobs to the printer, all successful. What never happens are actual print outs. Not one test page, not one test Notepad file, has ever printed out. I know the printer works because I can map any client PC directly to the printer using its IP address and bypassing my print server. I can print all day in that setup. I need to use this printer on a print server. All of my research thus far has stated, in no uncertain terms, that HP's latest 7.9.x UPD do not play well on print servers, even when selecting Windows Server 2019 as the OS when downloading the drivers. Apparently, UPD means what it means. The OS is irrelevant, and HP is going to hand you the same v7.9.x package. My research also pointed to v6.8 and v6.9 being much more print server-friendly, but alas, earlier versions of the UPD are nowhere to be found on HP's website.

Is there any hope of getting this printer to work as it should from a print server?

HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553 - Print Server Drivers

To ensure optimal performance and functionality when using the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553 printer with a print server, it's essential to install the correct print server drivers. These drivers facilitate the communication between the printer and the server, allowing for efficient management of print tasks across a network.

Steps to Obtain and Install Print Server Drivers:

  1. Visit the HP Support Website:

    • Go to the official HP Support page and navigate to the "Software and Drivers" section.
  2. Search for Your Printer Model:

    • Enter "HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553" in the search bar and select your exact model from the list shown.
  3. Select Your Operating System:

    • Choose the operating system under which your print server is running. This ensures compatibility with the server environment.
  4. Download the Driver:

    • Locate the "Driver-Universal Print Driver" or "Driver-Print Server" section.
    • Download the latest available driver package. It should include both PCL and PostScript drivers, which are commonly used for network printing.
  5. Install the Driver:

    • Once the download is complete, run the installation package on your print server.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
  6. Configure the Printer on the Network:

    • After installation, add the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553 printer to your list of network devices on the server.
    • Ensure that the printer settings, such as IP address and port, are correctly configured for network communication.

If you encounter any issues during this process , try under old OS for print driver or need further assistance, the HP support page provides additional resources, including troubleshooting guides and contact information for technical support.
