When I run Print and Scan Doctor (ver 5.1) the progress bar moves almost to the end, but then stops and freezes. I have left it sit there for several hours at a time, but does not finish scanning. No error message comes up. I have tried "reinstalling" Print and Scan Doctor, but that made no difference.

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
15.) Connect the USB cable ONLY when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.
I recommend you download and install HP print and scan doctor from the below link and check if it helps.

As I have said in previous posts, the exact issue is as follows:
"When I run Print and Scan Doctor (ver 5.1) the progress bar moves almost to the end, but then stops and freezes. I have left it sit there for several hours at a time, but does not finish scanning."
As far as making a copy, there is no error message to make a copy of... Maybe youi mean a screenshot...I have done that in a previous post, as well.
Thanks for following up.

One: I don't have any issues printing.
Two: The reason I am (attempting) to run print and scan doctor at all goes back to an earlier problem where I would receive a script error when opening HP Printer Assistant.
Three: So I tried running the Print and Scan Doctor to figure out if the Doctor could diagnose and fix that script error.
Four: Print and Scan Doctor won't finish scanning, therefore won't or can't tell me what or if there is a problem with HP Printer Assistant.
So the root of root of this issue goes all the back to HP Printer Assistant. Do you understand? Sorry to not have stated all this in the first place.
